Why I’ll always work with your dog to achieve the best photos
As a pet photographer you may believe I work with the pet parent to decide on what to photograph, and I do, to an extent. But I know at the end of the day, the best photos are the one where the dog feels the most comfortable.
Working with the animal’s natural instincts in mind
Dogs are highly intelligent and willing to please, which makes them worderuful subjects. They are usually highly food motivated or praise motivated or just darn happy to be included. Their enthusiasm is infectious. The best part though, which makes them even superior to human subjects (lol), is that they are incredibly honest. Dogs will let you know instantly if a pose doesn’t jive with them or an accessory is just too annoying. They try to be polite but there’s no sugar coating it when they’re not up for something.
Individualized care
The key as a photographer, I believe, is getting to know as much about the dog before hand and what the pet parent would like to achieve. This helps me come up with an individualized game plan. Some dogs will stand on their head as long as they get a treat whereas others are highly sensitive and just coaxing them to be comfortable enough to be photographed is a major achievement.
